Traveling to Malpais
Costa Rica is served by two international airports:
Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) in the Capital San Jose, and Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR) in Liberia, North Pacific Province of Guanacaste.
There are over 50 flights a day from all major USA cities (2.15 Hrs. from Miami - 3.15 Hrs. from Houston - 4.5Hrs from NY & LA) to both airports.
Once in Costa Rica, a traveller may choose to fly to nearby Tambor on one of Costa Rica’s established regional airlines (Sansa or Nature Air), or drive over land to Malpais.

35 minutes by air to Tambor, then 30 minute drive
Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR)
Travel time 4 hours by land
50 minutes by air from Liberia to Tambor, then a 30 minute drive
